Johnson to Sunderland?
Adam Johnson
SUNDERLAND are poised to land Adam Johnson in a shock £10million raid.
Martin O’Neill made his out-of-the-blue swoop on Friday after Manchester City rejected his overtures about a loan deal.
City boss Roberto Mancini said: “Adam is a player who deserves to play because he is a good player but I can only play 11 players.”
Now England left-winger Johnson, 25, is expected to join his hometown club within days after initial talks went well.
The former Middlesbrough star has been outspoken about his limited first-team starts at the Etihad.
He earns around £75,000 a week at City and is set to join O’Neill and the Black Cats on a five-year deal.
The £10m initial fee also includes various add-ons, which could ultimately take it as high as £15m.
Johnson only signed a new five-year contract in January and his move back to the north east will come as a blow to Spurs, Liverpool and Everton.
But his departure paves the way for Mancini to bring in Swansea winger Scott Sinclair, who has been lined up for a £5m move to City.

Actually during school life he didn't support anytime he wasnt that bothered with that part of football and he's actually from easington not sunderland
@releasethekraken he's actually not a Sunderland fan, his family are though and live in the North East so I think the move back up here will have been appetising, as well as the first team place guaranteed

@releasethekraken That must have played a big part in his move there. What a crazy move.

he's a sunderland fan so i think that's why he's being linked there. he signed a long term contract fairly recently so he'll be an expensive buy, and expensive wages too. that's why i can't see sunderland, liverpool or everton going for him

Would love to see this lad at Sunderland always rated him highly and he does right leaving man city, think he will get his England place if he joins a mid table team... Fingers crossed on this one

Heard something about Everton being close to capturing johnson... I think he's better than sunderland and could fit into any team outside of the top 3 (utd city chel) I don't understand johnson being worth 15 million though... it's beyond me

Liverpool should surely get involved and spurs - why go to the jackets- Newcastle don't need him. But he is a good olayer

I for one will feel sick if this happened. He's not a player I think we need at OT if I'm honest but I would take him beuase he's English and left footed. But to go Sunderland would be a waste....

@Charlton Probably not, will Ben Arfa, Gutierrez, Marveaux, Obertan, and Sammy Ameobi on the books, we don't really need him :p. He's just an English, overpaid equivalent of Ben Arfa imo (not quite as good though)

@MJLiddell he's deffo a Newcastle fan, all his family are Sunderland thought so that's why people get confused, you reckon we will go in for him or not new him?
I don't think sunderland can afford him. They had spent massive with minimal success and all their signings have been free transfers

@MJLiddell... maybe it's a common misconception. I just remember when he scored that cracker vs. Sunderland and the commentators said he scored against his childhood club or something like that.

@MB_Ktubes Aye, I've read several times that he was born in Sunderland, but he is a Newcastle fan, not sure why exactly, but I'm fairly confident he's a geordie at heart!

@MJLiddell... I think he is a Sunderland boy actually. At least I know his family are. It's a shame as I would have loved him at Anfield but you can't get everyone but I'm not sure if he is worth £15 million with that big wage. I would say £8 million player.

He deserves to play more, I'd be surprised if he opted for Sunderland though, considering he is a Newcastle fan at heart. Then again, games time is game time, so he may well take it, and I wouldn't blame him!

I think it would be a god move for Johnson & Sunderland. They seem short of quality out wide & he'd be getting the first football a player of his quality deserves. Also if Sinclair is thinkig abooout joining Citeh he should look at what has happened to Johnson & stay where he is.
