Man City pay off Johnson to move to Sunderland
Adam Johnson
With Adam Johnson moving to Sunderland last week it was reported that Man City paid off Adam Johnson for him to move clubs. Johnson was unwulling to leave, but Man City paid him a percentage of his wages for the rest of his contract for him to say he would leave otherwise he would've stayed for the rest of his contract bench warming. Is this right for a player to demand and for Man City to do for a player to switch clubs?

@Charlton It's the fact they'e paid him off to move after giving him silly wages where he wanted to stay just for the money, thats the point, it's the 1st time i've seen it done so thought i'd bring it up in a discussion but clearly I may aswell not of. @daveowollefdoog I just don't see the problem with it, he was obviously contracted to more money at City than he would have gotten at Sunderland, so he wanted some of that paid off before he left otherwise he would have lost out, fair enough it may be greedy but that's what he was contracted too so why is it a problem? you just sound bitter

@Charlton you just sound like you may aswell support Sunderland over Newcastle the way your loving them here. What i'm saying is clubs shouldn't be buying players like this and having to pay them off to move unless they were just releasing them from their contract. I couldn't care less that it's Adam Johnson, it's the principle of the move.

@Charlton he wouldn't of moved if City hadn't paid him off, thats what i'm trying to say, why would I be bitter at him moving? He's obviously turned round and said i'm not moving unless they pay a certain amount to make him go, he coulda quite easily sat on the bench n earned his money every week. But it shouldn't be right for City to have to turn round and say we'll pay you off for you to move otherwise all footballers can start doing that

@mrsentah Obviously it would be different if it was you or I but for them it is all they've known. So they probably think of it like that. It was just the way my mate said it that made me think. Also ironically I'm a Software Developer but do Admin if needed. I chose to do Software at uni & find Admin boring it isn't fun!!
