Can Roy's England beat Spain?

It's a possibility that England will have to face Spain in the next round of Euro 2012, and if we do have to face them - can we progress?

We've beaten them before, all be it 1-0. However we played very defensive in that game and that seems to be how Roy likes us to play now.

So far Spain haven't looked as great as they did two years ago. Even though they've beaten Ireland 4-0, lets be honest Ireland aren't amazing and Given has to be at fault for the first two goals. Even against Croatia last night Spain didn't look amazing and almost lost the game. They should of conceded a penalty, arguably two, which shows their defence isn't great, and against Rooney and Carroll/Welbeck they wouldn't have it any easier.

What do you think our chances would be like if we played them?

I don't want them too, but anything is possible. England have to qualify first though.

If we play like we are doing atm we won't touch the ball, it'll be like Spain vs Croatia all over again. The only way we'll beat Spain is to park the bus & win on pens. But if we try that I think Spain would get through within 120 mins.

We can keep Spain out and score against them, I think Italy would be a tougher game for us.

@ateeq.. I like Italy, they are a good side. I have huge respect for Pirlo and Di Natalie. I think they could easily win it.

Either way we need momentum going into the quarters (should we make it) if we finish 2nd to france i hope we would have a go to try and top the group. We've had two underwhelming performances so far in the tournament and need a solid confident perforamance to take into the quarters whether we finish first or second

He has a point, I mean we could be playing Italy instead.

you are talking about your chances of beating the World Champions despite still having a game to play. Spain are far superior team to England and even if their defence isn't the best Ramos, Pique, Alba Martinez are better than what England have. Ukraine were beaten by a good France side on a poor pitch. They will be difficult for England to breakdown

Yeah I mean a 23 unbeaten run is nothing in terms of being a good side.

Spain's defence isn't as good as their attack. The defence looks really good because they are very rarely tested. If we were to beat Spain it would be a park the bus job with the likes of Chamberlain, Walcott, Young and Welbeck breaking. We would obviously need another man in midfield also. @TheDannyGordon do you not read the papers? Or live on our planet? Enormous ego? No one was even expecting us to make it out of the group stages. Being optimistic and having a big ego are two different things. I'd also say France are a tough side to play against.
