I am getting excited so wanted to discuss this Sunday's quarter final.
Personally I'd start with - Hart, Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Cole, Walcott, Parker, Gerrard, Young, Rooney, Carroll.
I'd go with Carroll because, as everybody knows, the Italians are defensively sound and would have rarely come up against a strike force as physical as Carroll and as talented as Rooney. Carroll would rough them up and hold the ball up better than Welbeck, bringing Rooney into play more.This would also allow Rooney to drop into midfield and support Gerrard and Parker when Italy are on the ball. The Italians also have two pacey wingback's and although Milner is good defensively, I'd go with Walcott for the pace in both directions. Tuesday night, Young's inswinger's were very dangerous and with Carroll in the middle would become even more dangerous. Those are my thoughts. Over to you.....

Hodgson is to blame he has set us up to draw or lose in three games.
@Baldersmith over the 4 games - we played shockingly - hodgson was poor - lets not beat around the bush here - France were shown up by sweden to be average and we played them as if it was david vs goliath....sweden we were lucky- ukraine we were lucky and italy we got ever so lucky - not at all convinced with hodgson if this is the 'style' we are gonna play with - even Cappello would have done better as he saw the same things in the last tournament - anyway - a new generation - and someone like Wilshere will make us play better and more techincally - lets hope!!!

i'm happy with the way it all happened, i knew before that group stage will be it but wat harm is it in saying that england will win the cup. Its kinda funny but still england needs to improve, and they will.

i think we have to give credit for roy hogdson and england for reaching the quaterfinals and getting first in the group. this must be the start of a great journey that may lie ahead for england. On the other hand Italians where just really good, their passing was brilliant.

Fickle fickle fans, everyone was praising Hogdson for getting us so far now people are saying he was the wrong choice. It went down to the wire, we got beat on pens. I fall into the trap every year, England are going to win it! I'm the same with Wimbledon Murray is going to win it! but now i realise it's time to lower my expectations, Look at Ireland they didn't walk around thinking they had a chance , they get dominated by Spain yet they had a brilliant night! we beat Ukraine 1-0 and some of our fans criticised the team and the manager because we didn't win by more, we topped the group. Let's face it, England have always had the squad but other nations have better set ups. Our problem starts lower down, all the way to grass roots. Our talent identification is dreadful compared to America, Germany, Australia ect. All the smaller nations took a leaf out of their book and copied their systems, i have had this rant on here before. Every other nation is like a young man, open to change where as England is a stubborn old man who believes their strategies are the best and can never be wrong, not willing to change.

@ateeq Redknapp wouldn't of done any better..... Fact is the players are not good enough technically to keep the ball for long periods & its been proved once again this tournament. It's so obvious the sooner fans and FA realise and be honest the quicker improvements can b made. The Germans changed so why can't England.

That was woeful- quick points to save everyone reading my rant: 1. Hodgson or redknapp?? Safely say we made the wrong choice. 2. Playing defensive just doesn't work for us - Hodgson was a fool to continue with dull tactics ( are we really going to have a manager who plays this style again.... Sven, cappelletti- let them play premier league football on the international stage . 3. We got what we deserved against Italy for showing no ambition - the supposed 'great defence' was laughable - Italy on another day could've scored 3/4/5. not really disappointed because its exepcted

Can I just say as well that Roy's tactics were so wrong we need to play 4-5-1 so we can at least play football. It's shocking that we got dominated by that Italian team! Think about it, how many of them Italian players would of got in the England team??

There's no need to hit a penalty that hard, but then Young shouldn't have taken one anyway. He hasn't delivered this tournament and probably wasn't in the right frame of mind to take one.
