Bologna explain Ramirez sale.
Gaston Ramirez
Bologna general manager Roberto Zanzi has revealed that Italian clubs were unable to compete with Southampton following Gaston Ramirez's deadline day sale.
Saints completed a club-record deal to bring in the Uruguayan after a protracted pursuit during the summer.
Zanzi says the offer was too good to resist, while he was also pleased to bring in a quality replacement in the form of Alberto Gilardino from Genoa.
It may have been something of a surprise that Ramirez headed to the Premier League rather than continued his career in Serie A, but Zanzi insists Italian clubs are not as financially strong as their European rivals.
He told Tele Radio Stereo: "Ramirez knew that we would have sold him only with certain conditions. Such conditions happened only at the end of the market and so we had little time to act in the market.
"Despite the difficulties we were able to do a nice job by taking Gilardino.
"Ramirez accepted the Southampton offer because he couldn't refuse.
"Were there proposals from Italy for Ramirez? The economic situation of Italian football means at the moment Italian clubs are struggling to make similar proposals to those coming from abroad.
Will we now see more player moving from Serie A to England? Who would you like to make the move?

It's sad to see one of the best footballing countries in the world made to look like sh!t because of stupid money problems and corruption
@walshi1987 Hmm yeah i suppose putting 50 quid on adkins wouldn't be a bad bet... I do see it being him. That's a good site!
@LawrenceQPR23 Apparently the best price is only 2/1 with Ladbrokes. AVB & Hughes are 7/1 at Stan James. http://www.thesackrace.com/competitions/premier-league

@walshi1987 Yeah i was shocked when i heard that... Heard it on 606! Lol and everyone was slatting QPR for buying so many players.... Yeah that wouldn't be a bad bet, bet he is favourite though with the bookies
@LawrenceQPR23 Wow they speant that much?! Didn't realise that. They will be in trouble if it doesn't work out this season then. Also that makes me want to put a bet on Adkins to be first manager to get the sack.

I'm suprised about a move to Southampton, Only time will tell how well he will do. Fan's from both Southampton and Liverpool will have big expectations of him and he'll have to prove himself.

Southampton spent 33 million this season... The 7th highest in europe! They will be in big trouble if there signings don't do something this season! There has already been a great migration of good players from serie A going else where... Especially to the french league
@TheDannyGordon He's not that good imo. Wasnt impressiv last season nor in the olympics. You need to stop going on about LIverpool and our supporters all the time. You're talking like we all got the same exact opinion all the time. And you are obsessed with us. Tone it down a bit. You're making it obvious that you dislike Liverpool.
