Chelsea's hopes of landing Brazil star Hulk seem to be over after Zenit St Petersburg offered to pay £40million for the striker.
The Blues have refused to budge beyond their £30m valuation of the Porto man, and withdrew from negotiations in the hope that Hulk and his agent would force the Portuguese champions to come back to the table at a more realistic price.
But the involvement of Zenit, who have also offered to throw in Portugal central defender Bruno Alves as part of the deal, blows Chelsea's hopes of a change of heart by Porto out of the water.
Zenit, owned by one of the Blues' sponsors are willing to pay more for the Porto striker - and will throw in a Portugal international!

Ironically, Zenit are owned by Russian oil and gas giant Gazprom, who were recently announced as a sponsor of Chelsea.
Hulk's agent is quoted: "Sometimes we want a player to continue, but the conditions do not allow it to happen.
"Who would not play in the Premier League, for Chelsea or one of the other big clubs?
"But sometimes clubs have to give up a right, a player or a person in order to keep the whole structure.
"People come and go and the clubs continue."
Will Chelsea up their offer to land him? Why would he go to Zenit apart from the money on offer?

@LawrenceQPR23 I think it's a case of throwing a shed load of cash at a marquee signing to signal intent with the hope others will follow. They have to start somewhere.

I don't understand zenit.... Neither did i understand anzhi capture of Eto... With the money zenit are prepared to pay they could get near enough 4/5 good players.... Instead throwing 40 mil at one player

This just a tactic by Porto to get more out of Chelsea. He will go for £35m
Chelsea would be missing out big time plus hulk would just go to Russia and get hit with racist abuse I know where I'd rather go
I don't think Chelski need Hulk since they have plenty of attacking options. If they did sign him it would make others unhappy & he'd be unhappy if he wasn't guarenteed a start. If Zenit are serious I think Chelski should give up.
