Aston Villa takeover on the cards

I'm excited and pleased because it seems that Randy Lerner is getting ready to sell the club for around 200 million in the summer. Although the mystery bidder or bidders haven't been revealed its said to be Americians that want to take the club forward in the same way Liverpool was taken forward by FSG. The only condition is that they will only buy if we keep our premier league status which we should achieve with a couple more draws. Not saying we can win the league or even get in the top 4 because the competition is killed off by money unless your one of the lucky clubs above the big glass ceiling in the Premiership. We won't be able to compete with Chelsea and Man City just buying trophies with there billionaire's and we can't compete with Liverpools, Arsenals and Man U's commercial power. But the Stadium training ground and fan base is all there. If the club just had the right owner to take us forward we could become a force at the right end of the table again. We're a similar sized club if not bigger than Everton if you look at the history of the clubs. I just want a team that is exciting to watch, wins its fair share of games and doesn't get @rse raped by sh!t teams every other week. Then renewing my season ticket will seem worth it again.

Of course I won't really belive it until it actually happens but its clear that Randy Lerner lost interest in taking the club forward when he sold off our best players and MON walked in 2010. The recent statement released by Lerner in not denying the sale, saying things will be decided at the end of the season and adding all the rumours circulating Villa fans are getting excited.

I've just heard the names Bob Simpson and Ray Davis the Amercian billionaires that own the Texas Rangers.

Best thing for the club from what I know. Lerner doesn't seem keen to invest in the club, hopefully Villa get an ambitious new owner who gets them back to where they belong, a top half team

@TheWelshDragon If we get new owners with big spending intentions I can see us becoming a very attractive club again. Hope we stay up and hope it happens. We've put up with loads of gloom for the last 4 seasons.

@Villa-Rich You should go for Ralf Ragnick or Marcelo Bielsa, I'm sure if he was given a decent transfer kitty you could attract one of them.

Villa are safe, Norwich have had it pretty much unless a miracle comes along and it is down to us (Cardiff), Fulham and Sunderland to fill the remaining places. WBA maybe in trouble but I'm unsure of there fixtures and table placing.

It may prove beneficial to the club but they are going to hav to get Europa league football to become bigger.

@releasethekraken Another Scottish manager that will want to play defensive and dull football. Nah no thanks. We've had more than our fill of that with McLeish and Lambert. Want some entertainment and value for money for my season ticket.

Moyes is jobless now. i think there are two big(ish) clubs who are struuggling and would do great if they appointed him. newcastle and villa. be a great place for him to rebuild his reputation and do similar to what he did at everton. he'd improve both IMO if he's given time. rich what do you reckon, moyes at villa? @villa-rich

Yea i think they be fine just something i read about the deal that the potential owners have said the club will have to play top flight football

@machine44 Yes that is correct. We should be safe with a couple of draws or a win. I would be shocked if we got relegated. Currently 5 points from the drop zone.

Will have to make sure they stay in premier league first

@releasethekraken I really can't think of any managers by name who I fancy you know. All I will say is I'm fed up of having British managers in charge who rely on hoof ball or counter attacking style football. We've have more than our fair share of that over the years. Even Martin O'Neill relied heavily on counter attacking football. I would like to see a manager in charge who plays exciting possession football. Maybe a foreign manager is the way to go unless theres another Brendan Rodgers out there.

Have you seen Villa's possession stats in some of our games this season? Many games we've had less than or just over 30 per cent or possession. Like the southampton game just gone we couldn't get the ball from them and keep it. We were very lucky to draw. Its so embarrassing and frightening to watch. Lambert does deserve to go for the football and embarrassment he's made us suffer. I want my club back to how it should be. My trips to Villa Park have been utter punishment in the main this season and I've had to pay for the privilege.

@Villa-Rich american owners who have owned/own an american franchise tend to be more trustworthy because at least they have some experience (not always true though).

i actually agree with you, if the average villa fan is as disillusioned as you are about the quality of football at villa park then he has to go soon. the home record is abysmal over the last 2 years. lambert is a highly regarded young manager, a lot of liverpool fans wanted him instead of rodgers or martinez. but maybe he and the club need a new start. and this is coming from someone who hates clubs sacking managers.

shopping in aldi as you call it isn't necessarily a bad thing. and let's be honest, what more can villa actually hope for at the moment? it's not like they can attract top players right now, so aldi may be the only option. lerner has given lambert fair money to spend, and they kept benteke when he could easily have left, it just seems the team isn't playing well. if villa get a cash injection maybe a new manager needs the opportunity to spend it. any ideas on managers to replace lambert?

@releasethekraken I'm confident that Randy Lerner has the club at heart and won't sell us down the river to a Venkys type owner. He is a Villa supporter and he cares about the club despite being American. He lived in Birmingham and studied in Birmingham and he became a real Villa supporter who stood on the terraces at Villa Park. It's a shame he can no longer fulfill the clubs ambition. The club does need to take the risk of getting a new owner because the way it is currently being run relegation is going to happen sooner rather than later. The only way seems up from the cr@p we've endured for the last 4 seasons. But I will respect him hugely if he moves aside and sells to people who can take the club forward. If the rumours are true then the new owners are real big time Americans worth billions. But we'll see how the summer unfolds.

On the Lambert question I am torn because I can see the current situation is not mainly his doing. I do feel sorry for Lambert because a lot of fans have made him the scapegoat. But it is Lerner that forced us to sell our best players and then forced us shop at Aldi for new signings. I think any manager would have struggled under Lerner's restrictions. But against Lambert he knew the restrictions before he took the job and he thought he could come in and do a job. He has spent around 40 million pounds in 2 seasons. And this season he has presided over the worst home record in the clubs 140 year history. 10 home defeats in the league and 2 in the cup including sheffield utd. The football has been hoof ball week in week out. He has completely ruined my enjoyment of watching the Villa. And I'm not sure I'd trust him with big money. To many fans seem to be against lambert now aswell as against Lerner. I think the club needs a complete fresh start. New Chairman, new chief Executive and a new manager I'm sorry to say because I do feel for Lambert. He probably would have been better off staying at Norwich.

Got to be careful what you wish for. could get FSG, could get venky's.... got to make sure it's the right takeover. but i have to say i hope villa get back to competing with the top 6/7 again. it seems to have been a miserable 4 years or so for villa, since o'neill left.

would you want lambert to stay and spend some of this new money if he keeps you up @villa-rich ? or do you want a new manager?
