Best sportsmen in the game, Past and Present?

Football has been in shame the last couple of years with time-wasting, diving and two-footed tackles emergying every stronger by each gameweek. So who in your opinon has maintained an air of respectibilty and played the game how it was meant to be played, FAIRLY.

Struggling to think of anyone if I'm honest.

@maresh What i'm suggesting is that if he is a good sportsman for not committing fouls, then there could also be another reason behind that, which is that he never tackled.

@NUFCLiam if in your opinion you think he was lazy but whats that got to do with him being a sportsman? We all know forwards cant tackle so he probably stuck to what he does best & tackling obviously wasn't his strenght and didnt need to as long as he was scoring

@maresh I think he was a bit lazy though, which was shown by his lack of attempt to make a challenge.

@maresh I've never looked at Lineker the same way since I saw him C**p himself on the field, when England played Italy I think, in 1990 world cup. Think there's a clip on youtube.

@MB_Ktubes Yeh I know lol. But that moment of sportsmanship...you won't see anything like that in todays game.

Remember people, we're talking about sportsman...not family man. My vote goes to David Beckham but I can't help but remember Paulo Di canio and his amazing show of sportsmanship back when he was playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS1LuSiRrLI

ONE thing are certain, tho, that the best sportsman HAS to be English. Everyone else are cheaters. Personally I would say Terry, Ferdy, Rooney or A Cole. Great sportsmen and great nationalities.

Gotta be the players who dont get negatve media and play the game with everything they have got. I think Paul Scholes is the classic example of the best sportsman in the game. Alot more in the past than current footballer. Beckham is the best example of someone who really developed into a sportsman

There are so many players from the past we could choose from. Im going to be biased though, and say on of the best sportmen was Alan Shearer! in the present.. im not so sure, Gerrard would be a fitting example. Aguero & Silva seem to do all their talking on the pitch too. Dont think ive ever read a bad thing about them, and they are both amazing players.

Ryan Giggs has to be up there for me, he has kept himself out of the limelight by playing the game properly. Steven Gerrard also has to be up there. Jimmy Bullard too.
