Bournemouth vs Real Madrid

Bournemouth are to host mighty Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly.

The Championship new boys secured a July 21 clash with the mighty Madrid at their 10,700-capacity Goldsands Stadium after a month of talks.

Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell defended the decision to charge as much as £60 for tickets. “I don’t think that’s a big price to pay to see a team like Real Madrid in action.”

Are the Bournemouth board making the wrong choice charging so much? Would they be better charging less to attract more fans? Madrid will only play youth/reserve players anyway.

Real Madrid have confirmed they will be playing their first team, and I'm sure Real will be charging Bournemouth a fair bit, so £60 tickets are understandable.

£60 for tickets is ridiculous

@James Good point. I didn't think of the amount being paid to Madrid. I was thinking most fans would refuse to pay £60. But you also make a good point about that. I remember when we played Barca in 2001. I was nagging my dad to give me the £20 as soon as the game was announced. Then on game day I went down about 2 hours early with my mates to get a spot at the players entrance for autographs. I still have the pad I got signed now. Some guy got a £20 note signed by Kliveurt which I thought was strange...

A big fee would have been involved in getting Real to play so the £642,000 they will receive for the game the majority of it will be going Real Madrid's way. Bournemouth fans will be telling there grand kids about the day Real came to town
