Can Liverpools season pave the way for a bright world cup for England?

Now I'm not saying that England will win the world cup or anything like that, but as much as I hate to say it, Liverpool have been a breath of fresh air this season, great to watch, whether they win the title or not, and they have done it with a good number of English players... I can only see this as a positive for England.

I very much doubt that this is the way Hodgson will go, but I wouldn't mind seeing England playing with the formation Liverpool have used this season with Johnson and Baines in the full back positions, gerrard supporting Henderson and Wilshire and Sterling playing through the middle like he has been, with Rooney and Sturridge up front (though he is no Suarez, Rooney has been one of the few bright sparks in Uniteds season). I'd also like to see Terry come out of retirement and partner Cahill in central defence, I think having a partnership that plays together pretty much every week at club level could really help. Obviously Hart in net.

Saying this, I'll expect something like... Hart, Johnson, Jagielka, Cahill, Cole - Gerrard, Wilshire, Cleverley - Sturridge, Rooney, Milner.

English players are all overrated and apart from 66 they have done very little in world cups and even European championships. I will not be running down to the bookie's to back England in the world cup.

@Doozers20 Yes but thats in the premiership and the team is supplemented with foreign players. The england team always struggles in international competition against the better sides.

@Villa-Rich Liverpool are winning the league with these players, not every team has to play keep ball to be successful.

@Doozers20 teams know how to stop England.

@Doozers20 not the type of players that are gonna pass it around thou and keep the ball are they? Thats the problem with England we can't keep the ball. We just sit back and look to counter with pace men. We only look good on the ball against inferior teams.

@Villa-Rich Sterling has also shown this season that he has a fantastic eye for a pass, Sturridge has fantastic dribbling skills, really quick feet as well as pace.

@Doozers20 Sturridge and Sterling are all about pace. Take that away from them and they wouldn't be premiership players. Thats all we rely on England pace and power. Its been proven enough in tournaments when we play the top end teams were found wanting with our dark ages style of football.

@Gasher346 Don't think you can guage a full opinion on MOTD, particularly for midfielders.

@Villa-Rich Yet the players such as Sterling, Sturridge, Lallana, Wilshere show fantastic technique week in week out. I don't think England will win, but to say their players don't have technique is rubbish in my opinion.

Can't really see things being any different for England. We still won't be capable of keeping the ball. Our players not got the technique to win tournaments.

@jimbo1984 No, unless there are a couple of injuries... I think Cleverley has more chance than Carrick to be honest. I'm undecided on Carrick, been fantastic for a couple of seasons but dropped off in the vital one this year, injuries haven't helped.

I personally probably wouldn't take either.

I wouldn't say Jones is amazing, he's a young defender with potential that will be a utility player in the world cup.

@Gasher346 Henderson has been excellent! He's been a mainstay in Liverpools midfield and is much improved. Welbeck has scored at a decent rate this season, has pace and power. I'd start Henderson for England, and have Welbeck on the bench.

I quite like Carrick. he's been one of those players that holds up the midfield. I'd take him to the world cup. But i digress...Liverpool have showcased some great English talent this year who have refused to play in Suarez's shadow. Sterling and Sturridge have been outstanding. I must be missing something with Henderson and Welbeck because I just don't get it...about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

@Doozers20 he doesn't deserve it though does he..
One of uniteds worst players this season and that takes some doing...
Carrick has been terrible as well but probably will go..
And everyone seems to think jones is amazing for some reason, I wouldn't have him on the bench

@jimbo1984 I'd be surprised if Cleverley wasn't in the 30 man interim squad, been in each of Hodgsons squads.

I actually think Welbeck has been one of the bright sparks for United, and has always done well for England, I'd definitely take him.

On a serious note, cleverly can't go to the World Cup,,
If he does then something is seriously wrong...
He didn't just have a bad season he was terrible.. Based on this seasons performances
Rooney and welbeck are the only two united players who should get a call up...
And that's being pretty generous to welbeck
