Capital One Cup

Incredible win for Sunderland right there. I knew United were bound to lose this since they got to penalties. You need confidence to take on penalties and United are lacking confidence severely this season. Sunderland are known to play very well against Manchester City every time, but can they do it now when it matters the most or are Pellegrini's boys too much for the Black Cats?

@Doozers20 Dave Moyes has promised fans of Manchester United that they will be in major European competition next year........

Even if he has to write the song himself.

@Villa-Rich I also heard they're bringing out a new film. The class of 2014. The most hilarious comedy of the year

The pressure they create is the big factor but with city the chances are bleak for obvious reasons but if mannone is in top form then there is hope for sunderland.

@MB_Ktubes I don't think Uniteds 1st goal was against the run of play, United had around 4 or 5 good chances before the goal, but Sunderland were far better 2nd half and extra time.

Great performance from Sunderland, the right result despite United getting two goals against the run of play if you ask me. Sunderland have enough quality to stay up if they continue to play like they have the last 3/4 games.

Irony of that shoot it for united was that fletcher was the only one not to cr@p himself.

@Posford yeah even vidic doesn't seem to be showing the leadership any more. His game has declined do he should concentrate on that anyway.

On a positive note I thought smalling and evans were excellent today. Particularly smalling. Badly let down by midfield who invited attack after after attack onto them.

@Doozers20 true, lack of leaders tonight. No Rooney, no Van Persie, no Vidic, no Ferdinand. It just wasn't a United team. Another reason why Sunderland won and deservedly so

@Posford United are committing barely anyone forward is my point. They may lack the quality but United have always committed players forward and this is more none existent particularly when leading. It's not the United way and it's painful to watch.

@Doozers20 I have said it before and I'll say it again. If United had strengthened adequately in the summer then they would've avoided much of this mess. Pretty much every Premier League team did in the summer and just look how competitive it is. Anyone of 4/5 can still win the league and 11 different teams are fighting relegation.

@Posford yeah but at the end of the day this is the champions and there is no devine right to win but I want to see a united team go for it full throttle.

This squad did it last season. I saw at one point hernandez was running forward with the ball the others were jogging on the half way it was a disgrace. I knew sunderland were going to score.

@Doozers20 'I am at a loss I keep thinking things are going to get better and they just aren't.' welcome, you now know what 99% of all British non-United fans have felt at some point in time

Should be an intriguing final, Sunderland DO have a good record against Man City and under Poyet they suddenly look quite dangerous and like Wigan were in the FA Cup final, I reckon Sunderland will be up for an upset. Sunderland have already done a Bradford, can they do a Birmingham too?

I am at a loss I keep thinking things are going to get better and they just aren't.

Fair play to sunderland had more of the ball played better but I thought they showed there deficiencies which
are in front of goal and it took a de gea mistake for them to break through.

None the less sunderland deserved it and their fans deserve a bit of cheer. United have plenty.

On other news... mata has just been arrested for attempting a u turn on the m6!
