Could Arsenal actually spend some cash?

The BBC, along with a couple of papers, claim Arsenal are planning moves for Real Madrid pair Karim Benzema and Angel di Maria because the Madrid giants need cash to fund the Bale deal.

They also claim Arsenal could spend up to £100million before the transfer window closes; 'Arsenal's only summer signing to date is the 20-year old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre, but it is thought they could spend close to £100m by the close of the transfer window at 23:00 BST on 2 September.'

The Gunners are prepared to pay £40m for 25-year-old France striker Benzema after missing out on Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

'Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also wants Argentina left winger Di Maria, 25, and is understood to be chasing a keeper and a defensive player as well.'

Meanwhile, Wenger has finally given up on signing Luis Suarez, saying there is 'absolutely no chance' of that deal happening now.

@jimbo1984 according to sky sports yesterday they said real fans are starting to turn on benzima kaka and di Maria and can't imagine it being a nice place to play when the fans aren't with you so maybe benzema could be looking to leave, will arsenal pay the fee would be the first hurdle to clear if they were to get his signature by 2/9

They could....
But they won't..
Benzema could be a star at united Chelsea or city.. And he already is a star in Madrid..
No chance he will sign for the gooners

When the BBC start reporting it I take notice, they don't normally report rumours

@releasethekraken I always thought when he moved to Monaco instead of the other clubs he was linked to it meant it would be a short term move then he's off to Real. He can pocket whatever stupid wage Monaco's crazy owners wanna pay him & he helps them qualify for next seasons CL and maybe win a trophy, win/win. Players rarely move between Real & Atletico. Of the top of my head I couldn't think of the last one but a quick Google gave me Santiago Solari joining Real in 2000.

@walshi1987 falcao ruling out leaving monaco (footballers saying anything) means absolutely nothing to me. i'm fairly sure he said a couple of days before he joined monaco that there had been no contact and that he was happy at atletico. definitely something weird going on there. i reckon he'll join real in january or next summer, hence why they have left higuain go and not replaced him yet, leaving jese/morata as back-up. they're making room for him. the only reason he didn't join them this summer is because atletico wouldn't sell to real. well, that's my theory anyway!

@releasethekraken That's exactly what I thought about Benzema or Di Maria leaving the Bernabeu. I think I read somewhere that they would be prepared to let Benzema leave only if they strike a deal to sign Suarez beforehand. Also apparently Falcao has ruled out leaving Monaco;

They will definitely sign some players in the next 2 weeks, but 100 million? highly doubt it. especially not arsenal. if they've had this money ready to spend why not spend it earlier on in the window when the likes of higuain were available? at this stage of the window you're only gonna get shafted - and very rarely will you get anyone of genuine quality for a fair price, as most of the quality players that could move already have. you will also have to overpay as teams will quite rightly not want to lose their best players when the season has already started - not to mention the fact that they know you have lots of money to spend and are desperate! that's andy carroll to liverpool 2011 territory - very dangerous. arsenal continue to baffle me with their transfer strategy.

also, why the hell would madrid sell benzema having already sold higuain? they would be left with 2 youngsters - jese and morata - as their 2 strikers. they'd never do that especially at this stage of the window. unless something spectacular happens with falcao or maybe a certain luis suarez? as well as spending 90 million on bale? surely not. not even madrid. di maria could happen though especially if bale joins madrid. think they will want to recoup some money after the crazy amounts they have spent this summer.

Look at Arsenal's signings over the last 5 seasons with 11 days to go. Andre Santos, Mikel Silvestre, Park Chu-Yong, Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta, Nacho Monreal and Andrei Arshavin. This is clearly all rubbish. They'll bring in two players on the cheap who will offer very little. I would be very, very surprised if they sign anyone for more than £20 million.

I can't see Madrid selling Benzema whether the Bale deal happens or not. That would leave them without a recognized CF unless you class Ronaldo as one. If the Bale deal happens, which apparently is more or less done, then I'd guess Di Maria will leave so that could be a possibility.

Nothing like leaving it til the eleventh hour but, to be fair, I did my best work when I didn't start until twelve hours before an assignment was due in so maybe Arsene just needs the stimulation of having to spend 100 million in twelve days to inspire him in to action ....... or then again maybe it is all b/s.
