England squad

Roy Hodgson has named his squad for the forthcoming friendly internationals against Chile and Germany.

Squad: Forster, Hart, Ruddy, Baines, Cahill, Cole, Gibbs, Jagielka, Johnson, Jones, Smalling, Walker, Barkley, Carrick, Cleverley, Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana, Lampard, Milner, Townsend, Wilshere, Defoe, Lambert, Rodriguez, Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck.

Should there have been any different choices made?

Well he will have a good enough 18 there, and leave the rest on the sidelines so people shouldn't be too concerned about who gets in.

@releasethekraken what would make Dawson a good pick is that he is clearly a very vocal leader in a very efficient defence, surely makes sense to pick him - I don't see the point in Smalling at all- not needed at CB and there's already 2 recognised RB's in the squad + Jones, would make more sense to call up Dawson or Caulker

@owonefi7 agree with smalling and dawson. smalling is awful at right back, but it's not his fault really because he's a centre back. just doesn't look very comfortable in possession and not great going forward. liverpool have a similar problem with andre wisdom - can't dribble and isn't good enough technically to play right back but can't get a game at centre back which is clearly his real position. always been surprised by dawson not being involved.

@owonefi7 Cleverley aswel he don't deserve to continually get picked.

No problem with lallana and Rodriguez getting called up, I take issue with Smalling being there, hardly plays for united and hasn't remotely merited his selection, get Dawson in that squad

ossie

I have to say that I watched highlights of a Southampton game recently not really knowing who their players were and thought that Rodriguez could be worth a start for England. I actually thought he was probably eligible for Spain or another Hispanic nation. No harm in experimenting.

@mrsentah Have you even seen him play this season?!?! The English players at Southampton are perhaps playing the best out of all the English players in the Premier League including those called up besides Sturridge, Rooney and Townsend. Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse have been called up to the U21's but have been playing well enough to dislodge some of the regulars IMO. Nathaniel Clyne should also be considered after Johnson being injured and Walker being unimpressive.

Rodriquez getting a call up shows how untalented English football is

Finally James Rodriguez gets a call up and Lallana.
