Good luck with that! "Southampton set sights on Celtic trio Victor Wanyama, Gary Hooper and Fraser Forster."

Southampton have joined the English Premier League pack tracking Celtic’s title heroes.

Saints assistant boss Jesus Perez was at Fir Park on Sunday to check on the SPL champions as the south coast side plan their summer transfer strategy.

Victor Wanyama says he’s happy at Parkhead but the club may be tempted to sell if he doesn’t pen a new contract and runs down the last year of his deal. The midfielder, 21, would be attractive to the Saints.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders to ensure Saints remains in the EPL in his first six months in the job, but knows he must bolster the squad for next term.

And the form of Wanyama, striker Gary Hooper and England squad man Fraser Forster means that Southampton – along with top-flight rivals Norwich, Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton – now see Scotland as a market worth exploring again.

Celtic failed to hit top form in a 3-1 loss, but the pedigree of their players is not in doubt after a terrific season in Europe.

Wanyama would be the pick of the players for the EPL vultures and could command a fee in the region of £8million if Celtic decided to sell.

That would represent a £7m profit for Celtic over two seasons but is a drop in the ocean to the richer English clubs.

@slufsar but the fact is, over a league season who has done the best?

I think Celt has a point. Remember that the Championship team QPR beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

@Italian_celt67 Barcelona got beat off Rubin Kazan a couple of seasons ago, these results happen, I doubt Basel would be anywhere near Chelsea in the league if they were in the Premier League.

@Italian_celt67 it's more poor finishing than good play by Basel... Still not sure how beating them in their own stadium is struggling haha especially considering we could have scored more

@Jonevarro just saying you should have beat them by alot more, not taking anything away from you at all just pointing out that basel ( a team alot weaker than chelsea) held you almost all game

@Italian_celt67 chelsea beat Basel away from home 2-1 and they scored a penalty that should never have been given, we should have won 4/5-0 how is that struggling?

@Italian_celt67 Spartak Moscow lol, Benfica are a world renowned team, got nothing on the top 5 in the Premier League in my opinion.

@Doozers20 i think Wanyama will stay this season, Hooper might go though and id prefer him leaving than Wanyama, as for Forster i think he will stay as well though he would make a great keeper in almost any premier league team if he went to southampton then they'd be making a great choice even though they already have Boruc, and i would class Spartak Moscow and Benfica as top teams

I've said this all along, yes Celtic get Champions League football that is a given, but would you rather play against 1 top team in the group stage (if you get one) and have the chance to play one in the next round if you come 2nd in the group, but play pretty poor teams in comparison to Premier League for most of the season. Or play twice against United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton, I know which I'd choose whether it means going to Southampton or not, also gives a bigger chance to impress one of them big teams. Could see Hooper or Forster at Southampton personally to be honest, think Wanyama wil set his sights higher, all could stay at Celtic for a season though.

At least one of the three will leave celtic in the summer, whether to Southampton I don't know. Wouldn't be surprised if all 3 left

@CelticFC1888 so a player who's played in every league bar the Premier League says they are similar in quality? It must be true then.

@CelticFC1888 you've just confirmed that the SPL is shît, saying he's only played league 2 - championship quality and the SPL is "up there" is saying it's as good as those leagues which quite frankly is embarrassing. That also means that in a championship (at best) quality league you don't have an even more sizeable lead.

"I have played in every league in England, except the Premier League, and the standard of football here is up there. Fair play to all the teams, they do try to pass the ball and I think it is a good league." Gary Hooper, I think a professional that's played in leagues dicussed knows alot more than anyone on here.
