I wouldn't mind seeing one of these 5 midfielders join United in January

Thinking about potential transfers for United to help improve the midfield, I have tried to look for players that I have 1st of all seen so can comment on, but also that are realistic, majority out of Champions League as I feel most players would stick with their team as they would lose the opportunity to play in the competition, and possibly win it.

So although I would love to see the likes of Koke, Gundogan, S. Bender, Modric, Khedira join, I just don't see it happening in January and would look for one of them in summer. Anyway, 5 of the players I would look at are:

Cabaye (quality player, would be slightly costly but I think would fit in well at United, could be hard with PSG sniffing about though, more importantly not CL cup tied)

Dembele (Quality box to box player, would compliment Carrick in my opinion, apparently unhappy at lack of game time, though not sure how much he's played and again not cup tied for the CL)

Pirlo (With Juve out of the CL, he doesn't have that holding him back, the chance to play in a different league may appeal to him however there may be the problem of him having to get used to the league, and at his age he may not be able to. Would be the cheapest of my 5 options and a short term fix for United. Would be CL cup tied but at his age, only having to play league and cup games would be beneficial, though watching him in the Euros he seems not to have aged at all).

Vidal (Getting to the less likely candidates now, he would be costly and cup tied, however again has no CL to look forward to and hold him back this season. All would depend on who he thinks is the better prospect, I'd expect him to prefer Juve though to be honest).

Song (Only player I've picked still currently in the CL, but I think lack of game time could persuade him to leave, think he would be a good partner for Carrick, also played well with RVP for Arsenal).

Theres also players like L. Bender (who is still in Champions League but not with a team with much prospect of winning it) ans Strootman who've been linked and have a good enough reputation however I haven't really seen enough to comment.

So what does everyone else think? Would I be being overly ambitious with these players? Am I overrating any? Overrating Uniteds ability to attract them? Anybody else who might be a good shout?

@brightside_94 song linked up great with van persie at arsenal. vidal Would cost the most and for good reason. Think cabaye would be the
easiest to get! And cheaper than vidal and dembele who I don't see as a possibility now.

I really like song's link-up, the way he can get that with welbeck will be something to watch and ofcourse with van persie he can romanticize a lot, well the last time i remember of song is when he got transfered to barca. Recently, Arturo Vidal was on the radar. Moyes is an admirer of him. Cabaye will be an hard one to get!

Pirlo does not suit 442 because he is not box to box this is why pogba and vidal do all the running for him

Just read that Gundogan isn't cup tied, would love to sign him but not sure how long he would take to get up to scratch this season after his injury.

@MB_Ktubes Yeah that too on strootman but a big bid may persuade roma of United were interested. I agree think most realistic would be cabaye, my preferred option would be dembele of the 5

@Doozers20 stinks of arrogance if you ask me. Pirlo for an example would be a game-changer for any team and after the summer United had you would think the fans would be happy to see any new signings especially if they were a decent midfielder

Strootman has only just joined Roma and they are having a great season. I think the most realistic two are Dembele and Cabaye.

@Posford isn't at all it's showing that there are players I would prefer that still compete in champions league this season

"Wouldn't mind" that's like saying these players are only just good enough for United. Any of the ones suggested would be a great signing for just about any team
