@paulison i don't really feel like we need a playmaker. suarez, sturridge and coutinho between them can create plenty of chances. and coutinho can play in that playmaker role in behind the striker if that's the position you're referring to. i don't really think it matters where suarez and coutinho play - they'll link up and create chances wherever they start. i certainly think we need a CB and a DM more urgently than we need that playmaker. i do think some more money will be spent in the next month.

@paulison @mb_ktubes yes looks like mel garejo is going to be joining on a season long loan, especially now that jack robinson has gone on loan to blackpool. he will be competition for enrique then i guess. but having seen what some 'experts' who have seen him play have had to say on melgarejo they say he's a left winger who has been converted to left back last season but was rubbish for benfica at LB.... so that's hardly set in stone but it's not too encouraging. not that i'll judge him on what a few people have said, we'll have to see how well he does. seems like the loan is to try him out for this season and then see if we want him permanently. so no harm done either way really. there's a young left back in the reserves called brad smith who is rated highly - maybe we'll see him come through soon. but for now i don't see left back as a priority position. besides i've had a look at this melgarejo fella and he's nowhere near as beautiful as enrique! so he certainly isn't an upgrade looks-wise.....

@releasethekraken @MB_Ktubes Melagarejo is apparently a done deal and does provide much needed cover. I am not sure about Henderson's pedigree in DM (but I haven't seen much of him in U21's) or that of anyone in the squad beyond Lucas. Could Toure play that role? Probably not quick or young enough I guess. I agree that we need a Mascherano-mold player but I also feel we need a midfield playmaker. Allen hasn't been that impressive in pre-season.

We've been linked with left back Lorenzo Melgarejo from Benfica. Deal has apparently been agreed just sorting out medical and work permit. He would offer some much needed competition to Jose.

@releasethekraken... I would much rather prefer spending good money on that holding midfielder than getting Eriksen if these links are even true. The longer this Suarez saga goes on the more and more I think he'll stay. Arsenal will put a final bid in and we'll reject it. Madrid are wrapped up with Bale and the other clubs have already spent. Spurs won't bother and we don't need to sell to them anyway.

At the moment the team will probably be... mignolet - johnson, toure, agger, enrique - lucas, gerrard, henderson - coutinho, sturridge, suarez. very happy with our attack - i expect sterling to have a good season too. not to mention borini, alberto, aspas and even ibe (and downing) so we're very strong up top. potentially coutinho could drop into midfield though but with that team i do worry about our midfield three. lucas and gerrard as our 2 deepest midfielders are too immobile IMO. can see us getting ripped apart by stronger midfields and if lucas plays at the same level he did last season i think we will be very exposed. really hope he improves. problem with our midfield at the moment is that lucas is our only DM and i'm very unsure about him, and gerrard can't be dropped. so those 2 pretty much have to play, but i just feel that's a very weak midfield compared to some in this league. would prefer to have more athletic players in there. henderson fits the bill but he's not a defensive mid so can't replace lucas. and i really don't know where joe allen fits in. i see our midfield as a confusing jigsaw puzzle at the moment - no idea how it'll work. just hope brendan does and i have faith in him. i think that is the area we need to improve most. would like us to sign an athletic defensive-minded midfielder in the mould of sandro, mascherano and co. don't know who. i'd say that's more of a priority than defence now although i would like us to get another CB. we have skrtel, toure, agger and don't forget wisdom and kelly. i rate both of them and think they can both play a part at CB, especially wisdom. if kelly can stay injury-free i think he'll prove to be very useful for us.

@paulison... No not neccasarily. Watching Henderson in the U21's. He's a box to box player who's capable of defending. I don't think we be that exposed. Obviously I think Lucas will start but I think Henderson is equally capable of playing there. He and Gerrard can alternate going forward. Downing is a great squad player.

@MB_Ktubes Good line-up, the only issue would be perhaps leaving us a little exposed at the back and depending on opposition I would possibly start Lucas ahead of Henderson to provide cover. I completely agree with giving Coutinho a free role which could pay big dividends. Taxi for Mr. Downing?

Also 4-3-3, gk lloris, rb walker, cb kaboul, cb vertonghen, lb BAE, cm, paulinho, cm Sandro, cm dembele, rw lennon st adebayor, lw chadli. I'm basing this on that bale has gone and that we haven't signed soldado, obv swap soldado with adebayor and bale with chadli, also pains me to not find space for holtby

@MB_Ktubes I know Liverpool are struggling but they're still not allowed an extra player on!

Formation 4-4-3: GK- Simon Mignolet, RB- Glen Johnson, CB- Kolo Toure, CB- Daniel Agger, LB- Jose Enrique, CM- Steven Gerrard, CM- Jordan Henderson, CAM- Phillipe Coutinho, RW- Luis Suarez, ST- Daniel Sturridge, LW- Iago Aspas. If/when Suarez leaves then I would move Coutinho out to the right and bring Lucas into the midfield. Coutinho gets a free role because he can make something out of nothing. Would like another centre-back and I hope the Papadopolous rumours are true. Alderweireld would be welcomed too.
