Liverpool will finish above Manchester United this season.

I'm confident this will happen, even without Suarez - I think Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho are going to be amazing this year and our attacking football will still blow many teams away, especially at Anfield. Add to this the new signings and much more squad depth and there is much reason to be optimistic. Many people will lazily say "Liverpool will drop off this season, United will displace them in the top 4", "Liverpool will struggle to cope with the CL with their small squad" and "United don't have europe so they'll definitely do well because that always happens - in fact, it's the only reason Liverpool did well last season" and it's really annoying me. We won't struggle with the extra games because we have the extra players this season. Also I don't think having no midweek games is necessarily an advantage - last season we had a good first XI but no one decent on the bench, and when we did need the other players they were not only not very good but also not match sharp. This season we will have more options and they'll all get more game time so they'll make a bigger impact when called upon. I really think Liverpool will surprise a few this season, many are lazily writing them off.

@releasethekraken Liverpool have lost there aura without Suarez. Teams will no longer fear playing Liverpool. You don't really have any major standout players in your team. Instead you signed a load of Southampton players.

@Villa-Rich you keep telling yourself rich but i think you'll be very surprised come the end of the season. we still have quality attacking players like sterling and sturridge and now much more squad depth. not very good today admittedly but we still won. still 3 more points than united.

@releasethekraken Not very convincing from Liverhampton at all tbh. Struggled to beat your feeder team. There's gonna be struggles this season without Suarez. It's not lazy predictions it's the truth. Take the one world class player that a team had away then that team will no longer be as good. Not rocket science.

@releasethekraken You've lost Suarez no world class player I the Liverpool team now. Gerrard is a pensioner. Suarez was a truely world class player that made you a lot better.

@releasethekraken I look at United how they were 2 seasons ago not last season. It may be optimism but I truly believe they were badly mis managed last season.

I really do think though that sterling will star next season. I see 15/20 goals out of him plus contributing in other ways. I do think the top 5/6 will be closer than ever though and any of United arsenal or Liverpool will come 5th. 6th if Tottenham have a good season

On paper liverpool look weaker but the same was said last season. we've not made spectacular signings but the existing players (sterling, sturridge, henderson, coutinho etc) will continue to get better, and i believe the style of play will still blow away the rubbish teams and at times the better teams as happened last season against arsenal, united, spurs, everton. cling on to all of the player comparisons you want but i really don't think it matters - as a team liverpool are better IMO.

i think united will be better but i think everyone is getting way over the top with this van gaal like he's going to magically fix united. i mean, he might, but how can everyone be so sure?

liverpool will sign another attacker but it won't be a big name like cavani, reus, falcao - we don't sign that type of player on massive wages any more. i do actually agree that we are a little light goals-wise up front, lambert hasn't impressed me starting games in preseason but to be fair it#s only preseason and i always thought he'd be an impact sub and not a starter anyway. going to need the likes of henderson, coutinhoand sterling to score more goals next season. and hopefully the new striker will help out too.

Obviously I will disagree, United will be twice the team this season than they were last, I'm very confident going in and I think in the whole they have better players than Liverpool. I'd sooner Mata than Coutinho and Rooney than Sturridge, let's not forget Van Persie to add to the mix who I think Van Gaal will be able to keep fit and get the best out of.

I do think Sterling will star this season, was massively impressed with him at the end of last season and in pre-season, but I think Januzaj will prove a match for him (dependant upon game time with the system Van Gaal will want to play). The key for me is that Liverpool have bought granted, but none strike fear like Suarez did. The only player I really fear is as I've said Sterling (though Sturridge is a good striker too)

You have to remember that 2 years ago United were champions, noone would question their top 4 status at the start of last season, for me, this United squad is better. I do put last season down to terrible tactics more than anything, players don't become terrible over night.

I think a number of players will step up for United. I've been massively impressed by Young in the wing back role, Jones has seemed more assured pre-season, less rash, Fletcher looks a lot fitter than last season, Rooney has been fantastic (though I thought he was good last season), add to that Herrera who looks right at home, Mata who is just a fantastic footballer, Van Persie who is deadly, Januzaj who will be a star, Welbeck I think will step up too. Also Hernandez who is a good poacher, completes a good, deverse, attacking quartet.

There also seems to be a good number of academy products coming through that makes me happy, players like Tyler Blacket, Reece James and Michael Keane are already getting good chances to impress in the 1st team (and the 1st two have particularly). I'm also excited about the likes of Wilson and Pereira.

It all comes down to signings though I'd stay, Liverpool I think are a little light up front, whereas United are struggling at the back. I fully expect United to sign a defender or 2, will Liverpool sign that attacker?
