Mauricio Pochettino- underrated

This guy isn't getting the credit he derserves, he came into the club under immense pressure, after the fans adored Adkins. He's made some brilliant signings for them, they're playing some of the best football in the league, tactically in my opinion they are the best in the league, they're flying high yet this genius of a manager hardly gets mentioned. He's only 41 and he's better than all of them; Laudrup, Rodgers, Martinez, none of whom could achieve what he has at the saints in that amount of time. Give him the credit he deserves.

@Jonevarro true, but I still don't see them being what they were, Jose will lose control and respect of his players at some point, and that will f*ck with their form, I reckon at least haha

@releasethekraken I'd also say West Brom under Di Matteo, going great early on then falling apart causing him to get the sack, but again I think this Southampton are better. Whilst I agree with you about them 2 in comparison to 12 games, I think if Southampton were to come 5th, 6th (though I don't think they will) it would be a better achievement to be honest.

Doing very well so far but let's see where they are come the end of the season. getting a bit carried away, it's like west brom last year when people starting mentioning champions league, and hull a few years ago. think they're better than them though. also i'd say winning an FA cup (martinez) and winning a league cup (laudrup) is more impressive than being 5th in the premier league after 12 games if you're going to make that comparison.

@rrweale Chelsea are joint second in the league above both Man Utd and Man City...

Remember Steve Clarke last year? He was top 4 in November.

Just saying.

@Posford Shaw was played many times by Adkins, as was Ward Prowse, fair enough on Chambers though the Lloyd Isgrove one slipped through my radar, never heard of him.

@Doozers20 well he's the one who's played them in competitions this season... doubt Adkins was secretly telling him to play them

@Posford I know Southampton have down the years, just wouldn't credit Pochettino with bringing them in, Adkins brought most in, we'll see if it continues now.

@Doozers20 Well actually thinking about it now, it was probably Adkins who got the ball rolling but as well as Ward-Prowse there's Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers and Lloyd Isgrove who have played first team football. There's also plenty more coming off the production line like Keeper Will Britt (on loan at Norwich last year and winning the FA Youth Cup in the process), Jack Stephens and Harrison Reed. Saints continue to produce the goods at youth level, very admirable

@Posford which of the youth squad has he brought in? Can only think of Ward Prowse.

Really impressive, I thought Saints were heading down when he was appointed as I was thinking he was in the mould of one of the many foreign managers that just can't cut it in England. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. He has proved everyone wrong, got Southampton playing very attractive football, slowly worked in some of Soton's amazing youth talent into the first team squad, made some great signing and yet it seems he can speak little or no English. That's talent! If he keeps it up then he has to be manager of the season

He has proved many people wrong including me. I thought replacing a manager who had done well & knew the league with a relatively unknown manager who had never managed in England taking Espanyol to the bottom of La Liga was a big mistake. I think they'll fall slightly during the rest of the season but a top 10 finish is still exceeding expectations.

@TheWelshDragon what has that got to do with it?

But Laudrup has won the League Cup?

But is still better.
