Pellegrini and co don't know what score they need.

It's come to our attention today that Manchester City thought they needed 5 goals rather than 4 to top the group.

I think it's outragious that the managers and players at that level don't know the rules of the competition and that if teams are to be level on points it reverts into a knockout tie.

What does everyone else think?

I find this very difficult to believe. but i saw pellegrini's interview when he was asked about it and he hesitated for ages, clearly had no idea about it. you'd think someone would have heard about it - it was all over the press and social media beforehand. incredible if no one knew. looking at the teams city can draw in the next round, it just proves how important it is to finish top of the group - the worst team they can draw in the next round is PSG if i remember rightly. really really amateur from city, i'd be fuming if i were a fan.

@Posford they have enough staff to know about each competition that they are in. I would be fuming if it was United.

@Doozers20 busy schedule, lots of different competitions, lots of different scenarios, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't the only ones

@Posford imagine how they'd feel 'psychologically pipping them to 1st? I know they'd be happy just to qualify, but in their group it would have been embarrassing not to.

That wasn't the point though, the point was that a professional football team don't know the rules of the major competition they're in.

@Doozers20 fair point however psychologically after their 3-1 home defeat I think it was important for them to just get the win. They've already beaten their best ever performance in Europe so can't really complain about 2nd in the group especially to Bayern

@Posford and what difference would a draw have made?

@Doozers20 I meant to write *concede. If City had gone for the goal then they would probably have opened up at the back and Bayern may have equalised, if the score was 3-1 instead then I would be a bit more confused than I am by it all

@Doozers20 Good chance they may consider had they gone for it. This is Bayern we're talking about after all

City have paid for everything other than someone who is clued up on the champions league rules.

Crazy, can't believe he didn't know or wasn't told by somebody at the club

@Posford and I'm happy about that means United avoid bayern in the 2nd round. However they could have gone for it and grabbed the 4th goal that would have put them to, it's utter stupidity on their point and pretty unprofessional.

@Doozers20 Oh, little confused but it doesn't matter now, they didn't win the group
