Pepe Mel - Thoughts?

What are your thoughts on West Brom appointing Pepe Mel as their new manager? He's Spanish and speaks little English, and was sacked by Real Betis earlier this season. Will he be a Mauricio Pottchetino or a Juande Ramos?

As an outsider it's more difficult to see what happened with all of this. Steve Clarke started like a house on fire, winning against Liverpool first game etc. The spell he did well was Roy Hodgsons team, when it came to putting his own stamp on things we won 6 in 37 games or something like that (I'm not sure what the exact stat is) he'd reverted to a 'hit and hope' kind of style where we literally pumped balls towards Shane Long and hoped he'd flick it into a decent area. Was never going to work. He seemed to have his favourites too, i.e. Brunt and Ridgewell. So in the bigger picture it was a good decision. As for Pepe Mel, yes it's a gamble, but if you look further into his time at Real Betis he took them from the second tier of Spain, to promotion and then Europa League football in just two seasons. Due to the financial turmoil they were in they sold all of their top players from under his nose. He's highly regarded in Spain. Obviously it's a massive gamble, he's unproven over here, but I'm fully behind him and it wasn't as much of a 'last resort' situation as people think. We always plan things and never rush into anything, everything our chairman does is meticulous. Don't be surprised if it turns out well, but it could also go horribly wrong..

Underwhelmed by appointment of Mel,Clarke would still be manager if we had a proven goal scorer like lukaku .Big mistake buying Anelka,Bent may have been a better bet at the time, panic buys on deadline day, very un-Albion.Anichebe has never been prolific scorer,Sessegnon and amalfitano average after promising start.defence solid enough!just need some goals.

@Villa-Rich and everton have. WhichI believe has made a massive difference to them. Anichebe is a poor substitute.

@Doozers20 Its true. And your right it don't seem like much of an improvement. Foreign managers just seen to be in vouge. We think everything foreign is better. West Brom haven't had Lukaku this season I think that's the difference.

@Villa-Rich yeah but their new manager was sacked from bottom of the table betis who now have 11 points from nearly 20 games. Looking only at the stats I wouldn't call that an improvement

@bricka @MB_Ktubes In his last 34 games in charge in 2013 he only won 7 games. They were in relegation form. Lucky that they had such a good first half to the 2012-2013 season. But the bad form from the back end of that season carried on into this season that's why the chairman acted.

Absolutely ludicrous decision to sack Steve Clark now west brom are gonna pay for a poor era of judgement by the board very similar to what happened to wolves when they sacked Mick McCarthy

Wrong time of the season to change a manager. I was quite a admirer of West Brom under Steve Clarke. Well-organised side but now they will be in a fight at the bottom.

Well he was sacked from Betis who are bottom, and has taken over a team battling relegation, I wouldn't be putting my money on them.
