Reinas pointless move

Just read that Pepe Reina looks to be going to Bayern Munich. I know that they are one of the best teams in the world, but it seems a bit pointless to me to go from Liverpools bench to Bayerns, particularly when it seems its between him and De Gea for the Spanish no.1 jersey.

No disrespect to the Belgian, who I think is a good keeper but who would you rather compete with for a spot? Mignolet or Neuer (who I, and many, think is the best goalkeeper in the world).

@releasethekraken yeah it's great for Liverpool. Just pointless for reina in my opinion.

Not too bothered really. love reina but he was rubbish in the last 2 or 3 seasons he was at LFC. mignolet's far from perfect but i'd much rather have him than reina. can't keep a 110k a week keeper on the bench, especially not under FSG. good luck at bayern pepe (if you ever actually get a game)

I'm really cheesed off by the move.

@paulison I can see why the club would like to get rid though, I think they could get decent calibre back up for less money than they could possibly get for Reina. I'm sure there were other clubs that Reina could have gone to that wouldn't have him on the bench for a season.

@paulison is probably spot on that there is "bad blood" btw Reina and Rogers IMHO b/c this transfer says "I want f**king out of here" to me...

I think there has got to be bad blood between Reina and Rodgers because this move (or even last year's loan) makes no sense for the club and this transfer does not help Reina, I agree. I believe that Reina and Mignolet are both of a similar class and both are capable of brilliance and calamity. Although Mignolet was not the cause of the number of goals we shipped last year, he does need meaningful competition and Reina would have provided that. I'm sorry to see him go and do not get why he picked this move.

Reina must know that he's gone to Bayern as an understudy to Neuer who is unquestionably the number one choice. It's not so much a challenge for the starting 11, more of a solid backup.
personally always thought he's a great keeper who doesn't deserve to be on the bench but such is life.
