Relegation from premier League to be scrapped!?

Sir Alex Ferguson led the cries of outrage after it was claimed a group of foreign owners want to abolish relegation from the Barclays Premier League...Opinions?

The G-14 is on its way - with so many foreign owners and the sheer amount of money involved the idea of a scrapping relegation would ensure every club genereates hundreds of millions (maybe a billion for the upper clubs?) sounds crazy but thats how much money is being pumped around meaning top players would come to any team as they will always stay in it and smaller clubs could pay competative wages

No way would we let this happen in the English league though - this is our league -however i think the clubs that want the money will eventually go and form another league

Lol would be class, @gazpenk we can only dream! This silly thing about applying for licenses every three years based on form is the dumbest thing I have ever seen

Maybe they intend to make one big Premier League with 92 clubs!?! One day you'll have Chelsea v Man Utd...the next - Liverpool v Accrington Stanley.

The idea of doing away with relegation is absolutely the DUMBEST idea I've heard in quite awhile. If there is no threat of being relegated, then the weaker teams could go thru the season without really giving their all (or even a portion of it), and the mantra for many clubs would become "wait til next year" like you see alot of teams doing in MLB, NFL, NBA, etc.

@James Exactly! Walsall are gunna be in contention for the premier league within the next...100 years...maybe 200, this is disasterous news for the Saddlers! Also, i've heard that the Blackburn bosses are at the fore-front of this idea...Let's wait until Blackburn get relegated and see if they still fancy the idea...

@gazpenk apparently the FA have overall say because they are majority shareholder but if 12 out of the 20 owners agree to it it goes up for discussion within the FA. so in other words... Never going to happen. Walsall still have a chance to make it to the promise land!

Apparantly 2/3 of the clubs and the Premier League board have to agree to it for it to be passed. It's a mental idea and in the long-term will affect the stability of football in England.

The foreign owners can ask for it all they want it's not going to happen. It would see the lower leagues struggle because they would lack investment from sponsors due to the fact they won't be able to get into the top leagues. The motive to do well and give your all each week would be gone because what is there in the end? a top place finish but you stay in your league? everyone wants to play with the big boys in the prem, its the promise land and it brings in so much revenue for a club so i can see why these foreign owners want to scrap relegation. Financially they will well but it takes a lot out of the game. Let's forget about this right now.

I don't see any positives for this venture. What do the other leagues have to play for then? How is it decided who stays in the Premier League. The way I see it, it's nothing but an insurance policy for the marxist foreign owners who wish to remain in the Premier League by proxy rather than compete (which to my knowledge, is what sport is all about). If this happens - it'll be a catastrophe.
