The next United captain.

With Vidic set to leave, I haven't seen much said about who is to be set to be the next United captain, so who do we reckon it should be?

My vote might be slightly controversial, due to him having handed in a transfer request a couple of years ago, and all of what went on last summer, but the only player I can see getting it is Wayne Rooney.

I see leaders like Evra, Ferdinand, Giggs, even Van Persie, leaving or retiring in the summer, so the biggest leader in the team will be Rooney, he is also Uniteds talisman and seems to be getting his head down again.

@Richard-B I'm always wary of giving captaincy to a new player getting used to the club, to me the captain should be introducing new players. I very much doubt United will get Hummels.

I think it will be rooney but there has to be players brought in to replace the likes of ferdinand, vidic, giggs, van persie if they all do leave and therefore the next man u captain could be a replacement for one of them coming in the summer transfer window. hummels perhaps if man u can convince him to give up champions league football

@releasethekraken no he was very good last season. He's been poor this season though it's been interrupted by injury.

@Doozers20 do you agree with my assessment that carrick is sh!t yet?

@MB_Ktubes I don't see carrick as a leader to be honest.

It's going to be Rooney. Guarantee it. Carrick will be vice captain I imagine.

@releasethekraken United have a similar situation with Powell, I think he was bought o be a midfielder, but he seems to be getting played up front for Wigan, at least he was under Coyle.

@Doozers20 yeah i agree, jones needs to stick to a position because i think he could be a top player. and that position should be centre back. same goes for a lot of young players. andre wisdom springs to mind, been shifted out to right back, when he's clearly not a right back. needs to play CB. and he went on loan to derby and he's been playing right back for them which is disappointing. i suppose that sort of thing didn't do jamie carragher any harm though....

@releasethekraken I heard that, I also heard he would have a say in all transfers, I don't like to believe it was a condition, though I expect him to be captain. I'd like to see Jones made vice captain too, and play all of next season at centre back. Also to not be injured so much!

I agree. i would make rooney captain too. i'd probably make him the next england captain as well when gerrard retires. i heard that part of rooney signing a new deal was that he would become captain when vidic leaves? i thought it was already confirmed? or am i imagining things...
