Who would you have preferred?

At the beginning of the season, Liverpool not only miss one, but two of their targets to Spurs, Sigurdsson and Dempsey who signed for Spurs on deadline day. Liverpool's January window definitely was better than the summer, buying Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, two young players with big potentials.

Dempsey have scored 5 goals so far this season in 20 appearances, Sigurdsson has none yet in 17 appearances. Both would probably be in Liverpool's starting XI had Rodgers bought them. Liverpool really needed a striker earlier this season due to the lack of strikers and missing out on Dempsey worried many Liverpool fans.

Daniel Sturridge has had a great start to his Liverpool career, scoring 3 goals in 4 league games.

So did Liverpool made the right choice not to sign Dempsey and Sigurdsson? Would you have preferred them over Sturridge and Coutinho?

You psychically can't answer that question. Nobody knows how a transfer is going to work out. I'm happy with Sturridge and haven't seen Coutinho play.

I rarely admit I'm wrong but I'll do it now. I was so ###### we didn't get Dempsey, a good goalscorer that would have payed his own transfer fee in American markets, but given this was not meant to be the year we pushed for top 4 but more of a building year and next year push for it, I think they've done brilliant to be patient and get the right players, I believe next year will be an exciting year, I really do. And by then rodgers will have learned from the many mistakes he's made.

How old is Dempsey?! Liverpool have always had top quality English strikers and I am sure Sturridge knows this. He's young, confident and most importantly fearless. Has played really well for England too. Great signing.

So bias you are. Sigurdsson made all appearences from bench and dempsey scored 6 in 9 games.

@KavLFC can't really expect Coutinho to make a big bang on his debut though, he's a young player, we should give him time to grow and improve, could be a great player for us in the coming years

Think it's all for the best. I wanted Sturridge in the summer, but it looks to be working out. Can't wait for Coutinho's debut.

Yeah maybe we've got the better players now, but it still doesn't cover over the fact that we messed up big time in the summer and should have secured dempsey. maybe dempsey wasn't the best option but we needed someone. we could have done with him up front from september-december. if we had actually signed another striker in august we would be in a much better position now. still haven't forgetten the fuckwittery of august 31st 2012. and probably never will.

And to note: I didn't want Dempsey in the first place. Would've been great as a squad player but I wanted the money to be spent a little more wisely...

From what I understand, both Dempsey and Sigurdsson have been disappointing for Spurs this season? Dempsey's scored a few goals but you'd expect that from a striker playing ahead of a decent Spurs midfield. We can't comment on Coutinho just yet but I've been delighted with Sturridge so far; so to answer your question, personally I'm chuffed that we missed out on Dempsey and Sigurdsson...
