Why is the south coast derby between Southampton and Portsmouth so underrated

IMO its the biggest rivalry in england without a doubt with the Manchester derby in a very close second, oh and west ham and millwall. I just don't understand why people don't take it seriously its not even on TV this saturday it's ridiculous. Whats your views on the south coast derby?

@ateeq Why wouldnt arsenal fans or any fans care if pompey exist? course we would - all fans would care - nobobdy wants to see fans without a club, even if you do hate them! Never heard of the "famous" arsenal fans taking up new hobbies in january haha. You seen our average attendances over the years..

@multicooldude34 Oh yeah right - arsenal fans are famous for not caring when their season implodes and they take up new hobbies in January instead this year it was in October. To call the Pompey Southampton rivalry the biggest in Britain is beyond a joke - its so far down the list that no one cares

@ateeq lots of people care, I care and I support Arsenal

Errr Pompey don't even exist and no one really cares - that is so laughable that this rivalry is the biggest in England - we'll see how big your rivalry is when the other team folds and burns to the ground with no one raising so much Pathan an eyeborw

It'll simply be because it's championship football. Even prem derby's don't always get shown because Newcastle vs Sunderland only had 1 shown this season on tv. It's the TV broadcasters choice on who'll get shown and then the clubs have to agree to it with possible time changes so Southampton and Pompey may of said no

@multicooldude34 make sure you get to a pub with foreign TV you don't want to miss out on this one

@jbench I have watched the game on TV lots of times, and it is always a brilliant game, with an amazing atmosphere.

@multicooldude34 Thats what makes it even better that we have to wait and it doesn't turn into an average game every season like most 'so called' derbys. When we play pompey it's a very special occasion and a very special atmosphere, as it doesn't happen that often. If you ever get the chance to go to southampton vs pompey go and you will change your mind.

It has only been played 36 odd times

Just because the team are so called small teams doesn't make the rivalry any smaller then your so called big derbys. liverpool and everton is not a derby they are all friends who pretend not to like each other, man utd and liverpool a derby is not about how many trophies you have won, man utd and man city only just become a derby before there was no competition. A derby is about the fans and how much they dislike each other and something that has been created over years and not over money or how many trohpies you have won. Derbys are about sticking up for your team and not you're trophy cabnet.

I agree, this forthcoming derby should have media interest with Southampton flying high and Portsmouth in real trouble (could do with the TV money too!)

Prob because both teams are smaller than the most of the other derbies mentioned below. Both got pretty smallish stadiums aswell and just not as big of spectacle as most other big rivalries.
