Xavi tips 'world class' Forster to join Barcelona

Barcelona playmaker Xavi has hailed England goalkeeper Fraser Forster as a 'world-class' talent, and reckons he'd be a perfect fit at the Nou Camp.

The Spanish giants are in the market for a new No 1 after Victor Valdes announced he will end his 11-year stint with the club at the end of the season.

Forster has impressed for Celtic again in the Champions League this term after the Spanish media labelled him 'The Great Wall' following his heroics in his side's 2-1 win over Barcelona last season.

'I think the players all know about the Forster interest - and it is a player we know very well,' said Xavi.

'I can't say that I watch him every week - but when we have played Celtic he has shown that he is a world-class goalkeeper.

'From what I have seen he has everything to succeed at a club like Barcelona - and with his Champions League performances for Celtic I am sure there will be more than one big club interested in him.'

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has admitted that the clock is ticking on Forster’s Celtic career. The giant Geordie has been transformed from third-choice Newcastle goalkeeper to an England squad regular, and is threatening Hart's reign as the country's No 1 stopper

Contracted until 2016, Forster who cost just £2million from Newcastle after loan spells at Bristol Rovers, Stockport, Norwich and Celtic, has attracted admiring glances from a host of clubs.

‘It’s going to be impossible to keep Fraser, the way he’s playing,’ Lennon said. ‘Inevitably, I think a huge club will come in and make a huge bid for him.’

If only it was as simple as play two strikers and we'll score more goals, need to be able to create the chances, which Norwich seem to struggle to do. None of Hooper of Van Wolfswinkle seem to have great creativity, though I'll admit to not seeing much of them, so if anyone wants to educate me, please do.

@releasethekraken to be fair, I watched Wanyama a few times, paid special attention to see what the fuss was, and kind of wanted United to buy him, so I kind of agree with the Celtic fan in the regard that Wanyama's league went against him, as I think the top managers were perhaps put off the 'risk' as he wasn't doing it in a top league, so we'll see how he does at Southampton and if the 'bigger clubs' come calling again in a season or 2. However I also think he is being incredibly biased (and I say incredibly as everybody is a little biased towards their club) towards Celtic (ex celtic) players.

@CelticFC1888 hmmm, 'english arrogance', right.... or, maybe, just maybe, the reason he didn't sign for anyone bigger in england is because you're overrating him just a bit? just a thought...?

@CelticFC1888 so we can't disagree with xavi then? ...do you really think xavi takes time from his life to watch, of all leagues, the scottish premier league? he's played against him 3 times and is calling him world class. anyone else did that they'd be declared insane. also think anyone with any common sense would take these comments with a pinch of salt - bearing in mind what you'd expect xavi to say about a potential signing. not having a go at forster's ability as i've barely seen him play and think he certainly deserves a go ahead of hart for england if his form is as good as i hear, just think this was a bit ridiculous. don't need to be so butthurt mate

@releasethekraken well he may have watched highlights of his other group games but I get your point and it's no more than any other football fan.

@CelticFC1888 yes because Southampton are going to be challenging for the top 4 at the end of the season aren't they? seriously man are you retarded?

@releasethekraken it just annoys me when people automatically think that footballers have more knowledge and a better opinion because they have a talent

@CelticFC1888 you've still not said why. If anything fans are better as they don't have their own performance to concentrate on

You really do love an attempt of degrading don't you @releasethekraken?

Cheap comments about Celtic playing St.Mirren and so on.

The facts are Xavi has played against Forster 3 times in the last 12 months, soon to be 4 times.

He's in much more of a better position than anyone on a football forum to judge the player.

@releasethekraken The only reason Wanyama never signed for bigger in England was due to usual English arrogance. Southampton won a watch getting him.

@ossie no one's saying that, may as well all not bother debating football then if we're all wrong? and why does xavi know more than anyone else just because he's a brilliant player when i'll bet the only time he's seen him is when he played against them in the champs league. do you really think xavi sits down on a saturday afternoon to watch celtic play st mirren?

We've been here before. i remember a year or so ago a certain member kept saying wanyama was going to a club like united, arsenal, barcelona and he went to southampton. also i think everyone takes these xavi quotes too seriously, when asked what's he supposed to say? "nah forster's sh!t don't want that geordie pr!ck at barca" of course he's gonna praise him you mongs! also xavi says "admittedly i don't watch him every week" - clearly just saying the generic response to that sort of question. not saying forster's not good but come on don't be so naive. haven't seen him too much but if he's playing as well as everyone is saying i think he definitely deserves to be ahead of joe hart who has been awful for a year now. but i for one won't be surprised when he signs for someone like cardiff next summer.
